MU Health Care has announced a major restructuring that will eliminate 74 employee positions and close all of its Hy-Vee Quick Care clinic locations. The health system described the move as an "organizational redesign" aimed at streamlining operations and reallocating resources.
The affected employees include both clinical and administrative staff. MU Health Care said it will offer severance packages and assistance with finding new jobs to those who are let go. The closures of the Hy-Vee Quick Care clinics, which provided walk-in care at several grocery store locations, are expected to happen over the next few weeks.
Officials cited changing patient needs and a shift in how people access healthcare as reasons for the decision. The health system plans to focus more on its primary care clinics and urgent care centers that are already part of its network. MU Health Care emphasized that no other services or facilities are affected by this redesign.
The layoffs come as healthcare systems across the country continue to adjust to financial pressures and evolving patient habits. MU Health Care stated that the changes will help it operate more efficiently while still meeting the needs of the community. Patients who used the Hy-Vee Quick Care clinics are being directed to other MU Health Care locations for their care.
