The New Jersey Department of Health attempted to carry out a health inspection of Delaney Hall today, but officials say they were denied full access to the facility. Representative Mikie Sherrill confirmed the development, stating that state health inspectors were not permitted to complete a thorough review of the site.
Delaney Hall, a detention center in Newark, has faced ongoing scrutiny over its conditions. The failed inspection raises fresh concerns about transparency and accountability at the facility, which houses immigration detainees. Sherrill noted that the denial of access is unacceptable and called for immediate corrective action.
The health department had planned to evaluate living conditions, sanitation, and medical services. Without full entry, inspectors could not verify whether the facility meets state health standards. Sherrill emphasized that the public deserves to know what is happening inside Delaney Hall and that federal and state authorities must ensure proper oversight.
This is not the first time the facility has come under fire. Previous reports have highlighted overcrowding and inadequate healthcare. The latest incident adds to growing pressure on officials to address conditions at the center. Sherrill vowed to continue pushing for a complete and unhindered inspection.
