A Travis County adult is currently in isolation after testing positive for measles, as announced by Austin Public Health officials on Friday. This marks the second confirmed case of the virus in the area this year. Health representatives indicated that the individual may have been exposed to the virus through contact with an infected person.
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to severe health complications, particularly in young children and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a distinctive red rash. Public health officials are urging residents to ensure their vaccinations are up to date to help prevent further spread of the disease.
In light of this recent case, APH is closely monitoring the situation and has advised the community to remain vigilant about their health and vaccination status. The department is also encouraging anyone who suspects they may have been exposed to seek medical advice promptly.
