New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced a significant evolution of the Behavioral Health Emergency Assistance Response Division (B-HEARD), aimed at enhancing the city’s mental health crisis response. Under this new model, B-HEARD will be fully operated by NYC Health + Hospitals, ensuring a more integrated approach to mental health emergencies.
This initiative is designed to provide timely and effective responses to individuals experiencing mental health crises, reducing reliance on traditional emergency services. By leveraging the expertise of healthcare professionals, the city aims to address mental health issues more compassionately and effectively, prioritizing patient care and community safety.
The B-HEARD program will deploy specially trained teams that include mental health professionals and paramedics who can assess and assist individuals in crisis. This approach not only aims to improve outcomes for those in distress but also seeks to alleviate pressure on the city’s emergency services, allowing them to focus on other urgent situations.
Mayor Adams emphasized the importance of this initiative in fostering a healthier, more supportive environment for all New Yorkers.
