Health officials in Grant County have confirmed two cases of measles in unvaccinated children from the same household. The diagnosis has triggered a public health investigation and urgent exposure notifications for several locations visited by the infectious individuals.
The children were contagious while at multiple public venues. Officials are now working to identify and directly notify anyone who may have been exposed at these specific sites. However, they are also issuing a broad public alert. Individuals who visited the affected locations during the specified time frames should monitor themselves for symptoms.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through the air via coughing and sneezing. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, followed by a characteristic red rash that spreads from the face downward.
The most effective protection against measles is the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Health authorities strongly urge all residents to check their vaccination status and ensure their families are up to date. Anyone developing symptoms should contact their healthcare provider by phone immediately to prevent potential spread in medical waiting rooms.
