Residents living near the site of last month's massive warehouse fire in Tracy say they are still dealing with health problems and the environmental aftermath, and they have now filed a lawsuit. The legal action, brought by several families, accuses the warehouse operators of negligence for failing to properly store hazardous materials.
The fire, which burned for days at a Medline distribution center, sent thick plumes of black smoke across the neighborhood. Residents report ongoing respiratory issues, headaches, and nausea. Some say they have been unable to return to their homes for weeks due to lingering ash and chemical smells.
The lawsuit claims the company knew the facility contained flammable and toxic substances but did not take adequate safety precautions. It also alleges that emergency response was slow and that residents were not warned in time to evacuate or seal their homes.
Local health officials have not issued any official warnings about long-term risks, but independent air quality tests conducted by residents show elevated levels of particulate matter and volatile organic compounds. The plaintiffs are seeking damages for medical expenses, property devaluation, and emotional distress. The company has not yet issued a public response to the lawsuit.
