“I wanted to be part of the solution,” said Ivy Bagley, a graduate of ECU’s psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner program. With the increasing awareness of mental health issues, particularly in rural areas, Bagley is on a mission to enhance mental health care accessibility in North Carolina's underserved communities.
The lack of mental health resources in rural regions often leaves residents without the necessary support and treatment they need. Bagley’s commitment to bridging this gap is fueled by her personal experiences and a desire to make a meaningful impact. She is currently pursuing further training to better equip herself with the skills required to address the unique challenges faced by these communities.
As she prepares to take on this vital role, Bagley emphasizes the importance of understanding the local culture and building trust with patients. Her dedication reflects a growing movement among healthcare professionals to prioritize mental health and ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, has access to quality care.
